Where to Buy Customer Returns in the UK (and How to Avoid Duds)
Share
Every year, shops and online marketplaces receive huge numbers of returned products. Many are perfectly fine — the buyer changed their mind, ordered the wrong size or the box got damaged in transit. These items often can't go back on the shelf as "new", so they're sold on in bulk as customer returns or liquidation stock. That's where the bargains are.
Your main options in the UK
1. Retailer outlet and clearance sections
Some big retailers sell their own returns and ex-display items. Prices are good, but the choice is limited and condition descriptions can be vague.
2. Buying liquidation pallets yourself
You can buy whole pallets of returns from liquidation companies. It's exciting, but risky: you usually can't choose the contents, some items will be faulty or incomplete, and you're left to test, clean and resell everything yourself.
3. Specialist resellers who check every item
Resellers like NATEE buy the pallets, unpack everything, check it, grade it and photograph the exact item — so you only pay for what you actually want. You get the returns price without the pallet risk.
5 checks before you buy a returned item
- A clear condition grade. "Open box", "Like new" and "Good" mean very different things. Look for a seller that explains its grades — here's what ours mean.
- Real photos of the exact item. Stock photos tell you nothing about scuffs or missing parts.
- What's included. Returns are sometimes missing accessories or manuals. A good listing says so.
- The real RRP. Check the price on the brand's own site so you know what you're actually saving.
- Returns and your rights. When you buy online from a UK business, you usually have a 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and goods must be as described under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 — even when they're open-box or used.
Red flags
- "No returns" on items sold by a business to consumers.
- No condition grade, or only "used" with no detail.
- Prices that are far too low for a premium brand, with stock photos only.
- No business name or UK address on the website.
